Jacob and I had the most interesting day today. It all started at 7:45am when we got onto I-75 heading north. I had not made this drive this early in the day in nearly 7 years, nothing has changed. We were heading north right into the city and right into traffic. However, the traffic gods were looking out after us. You are asking, "why were you going into the city that early, and why was Jacob not in school?" The answer is quite simple, we were having Thanksgiving in August. Are you more confused now?? Ok, let me explain. About 2 months ago my girlfriend had found a post on Craigslist to be part of an audience for a taping of an upcoming Food Network show. I sent the email not expecting anything to come of it. Boy was I surprisingly wrong. The production shoot was for a "Dear Food Network" special to be aired the week before Thanksgiving. It gets better, the shoot is part of a town hall meeting to ask questions about anything turkey to Alton Brown!
When I first got the email that I would be considered to be part of the audience, I had to list my guests. I had to take Jacob (he wants to be a chef when he grows up and last year he did a report and included a picture of AB). When we got to the production facility there were only 40 other people there and no other children. Boy do we feel special. Before we went into the studio, one of the producers came around with staged questions and gave one to Jacob! How cool is that. We proceeded into the studio and the taping began. I cannot wait to see how it is going to turn out on TV.
I was quite happy to see that the Alton Brown you see on Good Eats and Iron Chef (and the upcoming Feasting on Waves ~ we got hats!) is the man that you get in person! It was a total blast and we were very fortunate to have been chosen out of the thousands that had requested to be part of the audience.
You will have to watch to see how it turns out. I'm sure if you ask Jacob for his autograph, he will surely give it to you!
